Grade 9 Online Mathematics – Ontario Curriculum
Course Description
This course enables students to consolidate and continue to develop an understanding of mathematical concepts related to number sense, algebra, proportional reasoning, analytic geometry, measurement, and data literacy. Students strengthen their problem-solving and mathematical communication skills and learn to make meaningful connections between mathematics and everyday life.
The de-streamed Grade 9 curriculum is designed to build confidence and prepare students for all future pathways in mathematics.

Number & Operations
- Working with rational numbers in various forms
- Understanding powers, roots, and scientific notation
- Financial literacy: earning, spending, saving, and budgeting
Algebra
- Evaluating and simplifying algebraic expressions
- Solving linear equations and inequalities
- Exploring patterns and relations using tables, graphs, and equations
Linear Relations & Analytic Geometry
- Understanding rate of change and initial value
- Graphing lines using different representations
- Connecting real-world contexts to linear models
Measurement & Geometry
- Perimeter, area, surface area, and volume of 2D and 3D shapes
- Right-triangle trigonometry in applied situations
- Using geometric reasoning to solve problems
Data, Probability & Data Literacy
- Collecting, organizing, and displaying data
- Interpreting graphs, averages, and variability
- Introduction to probability and risk in real contexts
Assessment and Evaluation
The final grade for MTH1W follows the Ontario Ministry evaluation policy: Assessment and evaluation practices are aligned with Growing Success.
- Final grades are based on 70% Term work (assignments, quizzes, tests)

- Final Examination – 20%
