Course Description

This course enables students to consolidate and continue to develop an understanding of mathematical concepts related to number sense, algebra, proportional reasoning, analytic geometry, measurement, and data literacy. Students strengthen their problem-solving and mathematical communication skills and learn to make meaningful connections between mathematics and everyday life.

The de-streamed Grade 9 curriculum is designed to build confidence and prepare students for all future pathways in mathematics.

  • Financial literacy: earning, spending, saving, and budgeting

Algebra

Linear Relations & Analytic Geometry

  • Understanding rate of change and initial value
  • Graphing lines using different representations
  • Connecting real-world contexts to linear models

Measurement & Geometry

  • Perimeter, area, surface area, and volume of 2D and 3D shapes
  • Right-triangle trigonometry in applied situations
  • Using geometric reasoning to solve problems

Data, Probability & Data Literacy

  • Collecting, organizing, and displaying data
  • Interpreting graphs, averages, and variability
  • Introduction to probability and risk in real contexts
