MEVA – Math E-Learning Virtual Academy

1. Purpose
The purpose of this Attendance Policy is to outline expectations for student participation and engagement in online courses offered by Math eLearning Virtual Academy (MEVA), in accordance with the Education Act (Ontario) and Ontario Ministry of Education expectations for private schools.
2. Definition of Attendance
For online courses, attendance is defined as active academic engagement. This includes regular participation in learning activities, timely submission of assigned work, and ongoing communication with instructional staff.
3. Student Attendance Expectations
For online courses, attendance at Math eLearning Virtual Academy is defined as active academic engagement.
- Actively engage in assigned instructional activities, including lessons, practice exercises, and assessments
- Review instructional materials regularly and complete coursework within established timelines
- Participate in scheduled online sessions, tutorials, or check-ins where required for the course
- Communicate with the school in advance, where possible, regarding absences, delays, or circumstances that may affect academic progress
4. Monitoring and Recording Attendance
Student attendance and engagement are monitored through learning management system activity, assignment submissions, assessment completion, and documented communication with instructional staff.
5. Absences and Non-Engagement
Extended periods of non-engagement may result in follow-up communication with the student and, where applicable, parents or guardians. Continued non-engagement may lead to academic intervention or withdrawal in accordance with school policies.
6. Record Keeping
Attendance and engagement records form part of the student’s academic record and, where applicable, are documented within the Ontario Student Record (OSR) in accordance with Ontario Ministry of Education requirements.
7. Reporting Absences
Parents/guardians (or adult students) should notify MEVA by email or message as soon as possible when an absence is expected or has occurred.
